The Aviary by Simon Alderson

March 2013 will see the second exhibition at Creative Glass Guild’s Exhibition Space.

Open every day!

The second show in Creative Glass Guild’s exhibition space comes from glass artist Simon Alderson.

Simon graduated from Sunderland University in 2010 with a degree in Glass and Ceramics. He works with stained and fused glass and has a particular passion for traditional glass painting.

Simon moved to Bristol in 2012 to work at Creative Glass Guild. As well as working in the shop, Simon teaches classes in fused glass jewellery and glass painting at our Bristol studio, and is our go to expert for painting and fusing technical questions.

The work on show comes from a project entitled Aviary. In this project Simon is exploring and developing glass painting. Each bird begins life as a pencil drawing which is then used to create a cartoon for the glass painting. This cartoon is used to trace the image onto the glass. Then the fun begins, the rhythmic ceremony of strengthening, flooding, shading, blending, stippling, scratching, highlighting and staining. Once complete the finished piece is then kiln fired to permanently fuse the image to the glass. In this exhibition he is showing both the original artwork and finished glass work so the viewer can see and appreciate the time and preparation that goes into glass painting.

We are also looking for artists, working in any medium, who would like to exhibit in our space, so get in touch for more info.
