South Bank Arts Trail
Winners!
Thanks to everyone who attended our exhibition as part of the South Bank Arts Trail on 8th and 9th of May and helped to make it such a huge success! Look out for future events and exhibitions in our brand new space! There was a fantastic public response to our guest artists and voting for the winners of our customers and students glass completion was a very popular activity! The standard of glass exhibits was extremely high and we wanted to extend the show... so you can now visit our online gallery here.

The competition votes have now been counted and we’re delighted to announce Our Winners!

1st Prize winner Nigel Mason, from Swansea, is deeply inspired by the coasts of Gower and Pembrokeshire. The colours and texture of The Wave reflect the motion and changing surface of the surf on a summer’s day, as the sunlight hits the water. The stunning piece is mounted on Pembrokeshire slate which Nigel collects on his walks. Nigel was awarded £100 gift vouchers to spend on his next project.

2nd Prize winner Buddy Bird, from Bristol, has only recently begun working with stained glass but her skilful workmanship and intricate enameling on Moroccan Roll show her swift progress in an area in which she is clearly gifted. Mounted in wood, which she also carved and fitted, Buddy’s lamps, stand between 34 and 57cms high and their warm glow hints at the exotic. Buddy awarded £50 gift vouchers to spend.

3rd Prize winner and Creative Glass Guild Student Prize winner Tracey Quinn, from Bath says: Turin Banner is inspired by a hand printed Rene Mackintosh’s cloth wall hanging. I loved the curves and flow of the work and transformed it into the bright colours of stained glass to show how its wonderful fluidity shines through. The piece is mounted in wood on a curving base and stands 2.45m tall. Tracy was awarded £25 gift vouchers to spend.

The Creative Glass Guild Students Prize category was open to anyone has attended a Creative Glass Guild course in the past, or currently studying on one. Tracey Quinn has attended the Traditional Glass Painting and Glass Fusing courses at the studios and won this prize for her Garden Poppy. She says: “ I wanted to add a splash of colour to the garden when all plants died back in winter so started adding stained glass to brighten things up! I made the Garden Poppy after spotting the beautiful glass in the Creative Glass Guild shop – its colour was perfect to show delicate plant markings at a large scale”. Mounted in a metal frame standing approx 5’ tall, it flexes in the breeze and sparkles gloriously in the sun!

Her stunning large-scale garden ornaments deservedly won prizes in two categories. She will receive an additional £50 in Creative Glass Guild gift vouchers to add to her other prize!

Inspired by our winners? We are! Why not try one of our courses and try something new this summer>
