This course is run by Chris Ainslie:

"Prior to my formal art training, I spent two years in the studio of the late French tapestry designer, Dom Robert. This was to prove a strong influence for me with its decorative emphasis of pattern, texture and linear design.

I spent three years at Wimbledon College of Art in the early 1960's eventually specializing in stained glass, wood engraving and lettering in which I took my diploma. My grounding in calligraphy and hand made letter forms was to stand me in good stead when I came to glass engraving later on. Three years in a stained glass studio preceded seven years teaching art in the private school sector. It was later on that the fortunes of chance brought me to the delights of glass engraving.

I became a craft member of the Guild of Glass Engravers in 1978, and ten years later I was elected an Associate Fellow. In 1997 I was made a Fellow, and I am also a member of the Contemporary Glass Society.

Whilst having the experience of many years of lettering on glass, it is in the last few years that I have been able to concentrate on my free design work, now that I no longer carry out lettering work for Bristol Blue Glass. Most of my creative work is for commissions or exhibitions. I like to explore the humour, ambiguities and interaction of the human situation - presented in a decorative design format."

Places are limited to six students to ensure individual attention. Runs from 10am to 4pm with a break for lunch.

On completion of the course you will receive a Guild Membership card which entitles you to 10% off your next course as well as other benefits.
