Glass Fusing and Slumping Two Day Course
We offer a weekend course covering all the basics in glass fusing and slumping, ideal for those who want to start a new hobby using kiln fusing techniques. You will learn accurate technical information, and will complete projects including a fused and slumped glass bowl which you will make from scratch. You will also learn the skills necessary to begin jewellery making and tile making. There will be a lot to remember, so a handbook will be provided detailing the processes you have learnt as well as the different compatibilities of System 96 glass. There will be a maximum of nine students to ensure individual attention.
This is a LEVEL ONE course - Suitable for beginners.
What does the course cover?
You will begin with a lesson in basic glass cutting. For those who are beginners, don't worry, we will have you cutting sheets of glass with confidence in minutes. For those who have cut glass before, we may show you a new trick or two!
We aim to give students a thorough taste of glass fusing, and you will try a variety of techniques and make a number of pieces. We start by looking at making simple moulds from fibre paper and firing under float glass to add texture and detail, a really useful technique for any kiln glass artist. We then go on to make a bowl. Working with fusing glass we fuse a blank and slump our bowl the following day. We also cover tack fusing and other exciting projects for you to explore in a creative and relaxed environment.
Every piece you make will be fired in our excellent Kilncare Glass kilns and sent out to you at no extra cost.
On completion of the course you will receive a Guild Membership card which entitles you to 10% off your next course as well as other benefits.
What do I need to bring?
Nothing but yourself and a sturdy pair of closed-toed shoes. All of your glass, materials and tools provided.
We will provide a delicious cold lunch from Pret a Manger as well as light refreshments throughout the day. Please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary requirements. We will do our best to cater to everyone but this cannot always be guaranteed.
What are the course times?
The course starts at 10am and runs until approximately 4pm. There is a chance that it may overrun depending on progress.
We will try to make our courses accessible to all however if you have any disabilities or physical limitations of any kind we ask that you discuss it with us before booking.

GLASS FUSING AND SLUMPINGBy Janet James
You create several pieces on this course. Starting with basic glass cutting then preparing tiles to go in the kiln. The course was presented by E.J and she was brilliant. Very patient and explained everything as many times as needed.
I came away with some lovely pieces and as I had only just purchased my kiln the course gave me the confidence to come home and have fun creating!

Glass Fusing & Slumping WeekendBy Catherine
I've wanted to have a go at fusing for a long time, and asked for the course for Christmas. I was a bit unsure about going alone and nervous of cutting glass but it was a really enjoyable weekend. There were two teachers, so plenty of time for everyone. We tried several techniques and our first efforts were fused overnight, so we had results to look at on the second day. I was really pleased with my final project bowl, which arrived quickly and very well packed. The lunch was lovely and plenty of tea and coffee was on tap. I've already booked the Further Fusing Course - this could be the start of a very engrossing hobby !

Glass fusing and slumpingBy Julie Farren
This course was a total relevlation to me. It got me started on my glass fusing career. I went straight back to Creative Glass Guild and bought my first Kiln. I still love glass fusing and can’t wait to open the kiln to see how projects have turned out.
