'Forest Floor' - A Three Day Masterclass with Jennifer Kelly
New for 2024 we welcome back Jennifer Kelly from Ottawa, Canada. Jennifer is known for her glass powder sculpture techniques. Realistic elements are gathered to create stories in glass. Each object is individually crafted out of glass powder and then formed in the kiln. In 2019 Jennifer offered three sessions of powder techniques with the highlight being highly detailed feathers. Come and join Jennifer on this new three day course where you will unlock the mysteries of creating natural elements in glass. Using subtle low temperature glass techniques, we will hand form mushrooms, fungi, lichen, moss, leaves, sticks, bark and feathers! All techniques are without the use of moulds.
In this masterclass students will learn:
- a variety of unique techniques with powder for both sculptural work and functional
- an introduction to new tools and materials for sculpting in glass powder
- various techniques with vitrigraph and a hot head torch
- how to create complicated three-dimensional shapes using heat and gravity in the kiln
- how to adapt these techniques to create other sculptural objects in glass
In this masterclass students will create:
- samples of leaves, lichen, feathers, bark, moss, and mushrooms

There will be a maximum of 8 students.
What do I need to bring?
Nothing but yourself and a sturdy pair of closed-toed shoes. All of your glass, materials and tools are provided.
Lunch:
We will provide a delicious lunch each day, as well as light refreshments throughout the course. Please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary requirements. We will do our best to cater to everyone but this cannot always be guaranteed.

Cancellations:
For cancellations made 8 weeks in advance we offer a full refund. For cancellations made 4 weeks in advance we offer a 50% refund. If we receive less than 4 weeks’ notice we are unable to offer a refund.
