Stained Glass with Fusing Course - Weekend

We offer a combined stained glass with fusing course. You will design and make a stained glass panel incorporating individually designed fused glass elements.

This is a LEVEL TWO course - some prior experience necessary. If you are unsure about whether this is the right course for you, one of our knowledgeable staff would be happy to advise you on 0117 958 8820.

What does the course cover?

On the first day you will develop a basic design with guidance from your tutor and create the fused glass pieces that you want to incorporate into your design, and cut the remainder of your glass. Your fused glass pieces will be kiln fired overnight. Then on the second day, after a look at the fruits of your first day's labour, your tutor will teach you the traditional craft of making a stained glass panel. You'll assemble and cut your individual fused pieces and lead them, before soldering, cementing and polishing your piece. You will finish and take home a panel you can be proud of.

This course is a great follow-up for students who have already taken a Stained Glass or Fusing course, as your tutor will push you to progress in these two disciplines.

What do I need to bring?

Just yourself and a sturdy pair of shoes (no open toes!). All your glass, materials, tools and use of kilns are provided.

Lunch:

We will provide a delicious cold lunch from Pret a Manger as well as light refreshments throughout the day. Please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary requirements. We will do our best to cater to everyone but this cannot always be guaranteed.

    Stained glass and fusing course
    By Sharon from Swindon

I attended the above course over the weekend of 16th/17th March.2013. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and absorbing course. I have never done anything like this before although have had a keen interest for sometime. The tutor, Jen, was very informative and knowledgable and very good at offering advice when needed....fairly frequently in my case! In the two days you learn alot and its so exciting to see your design evolving. It was good to have refreshments and lunch provided which took the worry of what to do for lunch out of the equation. I would thoroughly recommend this course. It is good value for money as you choose from a huge range of glass, not to mention the use of all the tools, kiln, solder, lead etc, and its a brilliant way to learn a new skill. I can't wait to do another one!

Excellent Stained Glass & Fusing course
    By Sharon from London

I attended the Stained Glass & Glass Fusion course on 13th & 14th October. I have wanted to learn how to cut glass & learn to make stained glass panels for many years & finally I had the time & money. It was money well spent. Although I have a design background I was a complete beginner coming on this course. The teacher Jen, was really nice, very knowledgable and approachable and made the learning process both fun and interesting. Within an hour i could cut glass & i was chuffed to bits! The class was small, 8 people which was just right for individual attention and also it was nice to bond with other people with the same interest without it feeling intimidating because it was a nice small group. I loved every minute of the course and wished it could have gone on much longer. After designing, cutting glass & preparing for the glass fusing at the end of the first day, i was very happy with how much we had learnt and achieved. On day two we were all full of excitement of seeing how our fused work had turned out! The rest of the day was spent learning & putting together our very own glass panel. We finished our work just in time to take it home. Apart from the learning process I really liked the fact that our teacher made & designed her own panel along side us. To have our teacher as interested & excited to make her own & also to see our work, was really nice as Jen has a long career in glasswork & was still just as enthusiastic as we were.
I think the course was great value for money, extremely well thought out, planned & executed perfectly. We were not bored once & our days were as full as they could be without being too much, even for a beginner. There was non stop advice available and also the promise of being on the end of the phone for any future advice, any time.
It really was a fantastic experience and made me think 'what have i been doing with my life?' before i discovered the joy of glasswork!
