The Hakko FX601 allows you to control the temperature. This reduces the tendency to melt the lead came as well as the solder.

Good value

Great place to start.

it give you all the things you need to start and two sheets of clear glass to practice on. tools are decent quality, particularly the cutter and soldering iron.
there is enough here to have a practice and for a few little projects once you get going. (You will need to choose and buy some stained glass, but that's it)
for me, as a complete beginner, it has been a really worth while purchase. Dispatch and delivery was very quick too; bought on Saturday, delivered Monday!
